NGOs - Non Governmental Organisations

While the New Zealand Government is committed to upholding the rights of children and young people contained in legislation, and in ratified human rights treaties such as UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the reality is that sometimes this commitment is not fulfilled.

So it is essential that central and local government agencies, and all those working with and for children and young people, are aware of the importance of taking a children’s rights approach to their work.

NGO play an important role in this respect by raising public awareness of the rights of children and young people under UNCROC and how those rights ought to be reflected in domestic policy and legislation.
