Law fails most needy children

The Child Poverty Action Group has run an excellent and important campaign, arguing that the In Work Tax Credit unjustifiably discriminates against families on benefits. In September 2013, the Court of Appeal found that there was discrimination against all beneficiaries with children, but that the discrimination was justified.

What can ACYA members do?
We can make sure that children’s and young people’s rights are addressed in our alternative report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

In Articles 26 and 27 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, these are set out as rights to
  • benefit from social security
  • an adequate standard of living.
